Moosewood -- We Wanted to Love It

Last week on Friday all we could think about was great BBQ with sweet potato fries for lunch. So out of all the great local options we selected lunch at the Moosewood in Canterbury -- regrettably it was a total bust! My partner and I have 30 minutes for lunch during the week, so we walked in the door of the Moosewood at exactly 11:00 am. Being the only customers there, we thought for certain our lunch would be served up quickly. We told our server about our tight schedule, and placed our order. One carry out order came and went, no other customers joined us.

Unfortunately after 24 minutes of waiting we learned that our order hadn’t even made it back to the kitchen! It wasn’t until we told the server we had to leave that the order was actually placed with the cook. We waited another 10 minutes to receive our food as a carry out.

Since we BBQ isn’t exactly “finger food” to eat while driving we had to wait until later that afternoon to sit down back at the office to eat. Our food was (of course, after sitting quite sometime) mushy, soggy and cold. I had been looking forward to the sweet potato fries, but I didn’t enjoy them at all.

Sadly, neither the management or the server apologized or offered to discount our food. They did give us “extra” cornbread -- since that is free anyway I am not sure how that is “extra” -- but that is what the server said to us.

In talking with one of the other Mystery Shopping Mom’s about our experience -- she shared with me that the last time she was there her friend was very sick after eating at the Moosewood and has vowed not to go back. So use caution in trying this place out!

<Report filed by Agent BB>
The Gargantuan was incredible!

What a surprise, there is a new sub shop franchise in town. JJ’s claim to fame is Freaky Fast service, and fresh cut fillings. Their slogan is “YOUR MOM WANTS YOU TO EAT AT JIMMY JOHN’S®” They offer several styles of sandwich: 8” Subs, Giant Club Sandwiches, Plain Slims (subs with no veggies or sauces), the JJ Unwich (a lettuce warp), and the JJ Gargantuan (which it is). Prices are ok, I felt that the cookies were good but slightly overpriced and the pop was definitely overpriced. Now back to the sandwiches themselves. I have personally had the Gargantuan and was incredible. The quantity of meat and veggies was stunning, and the taste was fabulous! I have also experienced the “Hunter Club”, roast beef on whole wheat with a ton of veggies. The bread was spectacular and the roast beef was easily good as or better than anything you get at the supermarket deli counter, and way better then Arby’s™. I could really love this place except for one chronic problem. They claim to deliver, but delivery hours are sketchy at best. I have called and asked for delivery six times, they were only available twice. On one occasion I was embarrassed because I had convinced several other people to order with me. They are of course always sorry, always offer pick up service (if I wanted to pick it up I wouldn’t call for delivery!), and always have an excuse. This is the only real blot on what I feel could be a wonderful sub shop.
<Report filed by Agent Old Tired Guy>

They make very powerful Desktop publishing software at incredibly low prices. The latest version of their software is PagePlus X2, PhotoPlus X2, and WebPlus X2.

PagePlus is a strong desktop publishing program that will do pretty much everything the more pricey Pagemaker can do! From layers to PDF's this program does it all. PhotoPlus as far as I can tell has all of the functionality of Photoshop, and WebPlus is just an excellent tool for generating web site from the easy to the complex.

The company is based in England with offices in New Hampshire. I have never had a customer service problem with them and I have dealing with them for over 10 years. They respond to problems quickly.
Physical Address:
Serif, Inc.
13 Columbia Drive, Suite 5
Amherst, NH 03031
USA
Phone: (603) 889-8650
Fax: (603) 889-1127

Mailing Address:
Serif, Inc.
13 Columbia Drive, Suite 5
Amherst, NH 03031
USA

<Report filed by Agent Old Tired Guy>
Although we walked in and were seated right away, surprisingly the service was very slow. Our server Kristie had a pleasant demeanor -- although inattentive to our table. We went without a water or bread refill for most of our meal.

The food was overdone. The normally soft breadsticks were actually unusually crunchy. The salad was wet and somewhat “dead.” It was disappointing.

<Report filed by Agent KB>

Ten of us showed up to enjoy pizza and congratulate him on his excellent grades. For his outstanding efforts my nephew had earned a personal pan pizza gift certificate from Pizza Hut.

The service was fine, the food was as good as ever. But when the time came to pay the bill -- what a pain! Although our total was over $100, the waitress was unwilling to give us the personal pan pizza free because his grandmother had eaten the little pizza instead of my nephew. Now the gift certificate states that the student must accompany the purchaser -- NOT -- the student is the only one entitled to consume this item.

What could have been just another great memory at a restaurant we enjoy -- turned into a memorable experience for a whole other reason.

<Report filed by Agent Patty>
